What moves a Shopify store's price
- Theme or custom
- Adapting a Theme Store theme is the quickest path. A custom theme is designed around your products and brand, and is not limited to a theme's sections.
- Apps versus building it in
- Apps add features fast but each adds a monthly fee and some page weight. Building a feature into the theme costs once.
- Product data
- Variants, metafields, filters and importing products from another platform take setup time, whatever the tier.
- Markets and languages
- Selling in several countries adds translated content, local prices and currencies, and testing per market.
- Integrations
- Syncing stock, orders and customers with an ERP, warehouse or accounting tool is often the biggest single cost.
- Speed
- Heavy themes and many apps slow a store down on phones. A store built to stay light keeps more of the visitors you paid to bring.
Shopify cost questions
How much does it cost to build a Shopify store?
At our published prices, a new Shopify store costs $2,000 – $3,000 on an adapted theme (Essential), $6,000 – $9,000 with a custom theme (Custom) and $16,000 – $23,750 on Signature. A store with customer accounts, filters and a blog costs $2,500 – $3,500, $7,250 – $10,500 or $19,500 – $28,000.
What does Shopify cost every month?
Shopify charges a monthly plan, which starts at around $40 a month at the time of writing, plus payment fees on each sale that depend on your plan and payment provider. Paid apps add their own monthly fees. Check Shopify's pricing page for current numbers.
Do I need a custom Shopify theme?
Not to start. A well-chosen theme, adapted to your brand, sells well for most new stores. A custom theme earns its cost when your products need layouts a theme does not have, when apps are slowing the store down, or when your brand is how you compete.
Shopify or a custom e-commerce site?
Shopify is the faster, lower-risk choice for most stores: checkout, hosting and security are handled. A fully custom store makes sense for unusual products, complex pricing, or deep integrations. Our e-commerce calculator prices both.
Can you move my store to Shopify from another platform?
Yes. Products, customers and orders can be imported, and old addresses redirected so search rankings carry over. Add the pages and integrations your store needs in the calculator, and mention the move in your note.
